Interview follow-up email builder

A follow-up email is not where you re-sell yourself from scratch — it is three sentences that confirm you were listening and remind them of one specific thing.

Fill in who you spoke with and one point worth reinforcing, and this assembles a short email you can send within a day of the interview, which is when it still matters.

Specific beats general. A generic "great chatting with you" is forgettable.

Your email

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to talk through the the role role at your team today. I enjoyed the conversation and it left me more confident this is a role I'd do well in.
I particularly wanted to reiterate my interest, and I'm happy to share more detail on anything we didn't get to.

Please let me know if there's anything further you need from me. Looking forward to hearing about next steps.

Questions people ask

How soon after the interview should I send this?
Within 24 hours, ideally the same day. Later than that and it stops reading as a response to the conversation and starts reading as an afterthought.
Should I send a follow-up after every round?
After a first or panel round, yes. For very short or purely administrative calls, a brief thank-you is still fine but a specific callback matters less.
What if I do not remember anything specific to reference?
Note down one thing right after the interview, even a phrase, while it is fresh. Waiting until you write the email makes it much harder to be specific.
